First, let me just clarify that I am NOT a writer, nor do I strive to be. I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll never get to the NY Times Best Seller List.
And after reading half a thousand blogs and posts on WordPress and Blogger, even some of those that say they are writers, some of those “writers” really shouldn’t quit their day jobs (or if they are, maybe they should). Their blogs aren’t any better than the ones that don’t get “featured” on the front page of WordPress. As a matter of fact, I’ve clicked my back button after reading a quarter of a post, finding that it’s not that interesting. I’m sure others have done the same to mine. And that’s fine. Not all subject matter appeals to everyone. The people that need to use big words to sound intelligent are the ones that tell me that they must be one hell of a bore at a party. It’s one thing to sound intelligent, it’s another to try to think you can keep up with the likes of Stephen Hawkins.
Believe me, there are no mental conquests going on in my blog. Simple, everyday observations or thoughts. I’m not that deep.
Blogs are pretty personal. Most of us are lashing out on our keyboards from deep within. An introspective thought or observation can turn into an emotional torrent of words. Sometimes those words aren’t put into perfect order. Some of those words are profane. Who cares? As far as I’m concerned, NO ONE is a perfect writer. Their PR agent is the one that gets them noticed. Their editor( and even THEY aren’t that good at what they do-I’ve had my run ins with them), their collaborator if there is one. A good friend who is in marketing. It’s an arduous task promoting your work by yourself.
Also, if you are participating in the “Post A Day” challenge, please do not expect me to “Post A Comment” a day. This is YOUR challenge, not mine.
And who is to orate their knowledge of writing? What makes them the expert? They’ve gone to classes, studied with other “teachers”. So that makes them the expert? These other “teachers”? Who are they to say THEY are the experts? Some are just natural at laying their words juuust right on screen. I never took well to teachers. I’m a hands on person. I don’t like people dictating to me. I’ll do it my way.

… and I think you are absolutely right!! Nice blog
Thank you.
Hello again! I’ve always thought that. You look at these “experts” in magazines etc. who write books about how to write a great novel. Why have I never heard of them?! Oh right. Because they’ve never actually done it themselves. Yours is the kind of blog I like to read
Thank you Siobhan! As you can see I enjoyed your posts as well!
Preach on Sister. I agree with you 100%.
LOL! Thank you!!
I love this line and can so appreciate it: “Also, if you are participating in the “Post A Day” challenge, please do not expect me to “Post A Comment” a day. This is YOUR challenge, not mine.”
Your perspective is so fresh and real and yes: You are a writer! Few make it to the NY Times Bestseller list, so that shouldn’t be the benchmark. You are very funny indeed.
Thank you! I try to be realistic. If you a person who needs things sugar coated and seen through rose colored glasses then go to a resort in the islands.
